Downloading the files from Digital River is absolutely legal and completely free of charge. Digital River is Microsoft's online distribution partner. Since this is an official download channel, you can be sure to receive setup files free of viruses and malware. Without a legally obtained product key however, only trial installations can be done.You can verify Digital River's status as an official vendor from this Microsoft press release, and the integrity of the download domain digitalrivercontent.net from the Network Solutions Whois Server.

Should you want to use Office 2011 permanently, and don't own a product key yet, you can order it from Amazon. I don't know if a valid key can activate other language editions as well. Since it works that way with the Windows editions, I suspect that it should also work with the Mac editions. I already tried to find the cheapest deal for each edition on Amazon. Remember to backup your Digital River downloads. They might only stay online as long as Microsoft distributes Office 2011.
